acrylic, 6x6"
Originally titled "Hope," this painting is now called "Knowing." Painted in January or maybe February, this is one of my earliest still lifes and gave me hope that I would someday be able to paint the way I want to paint. I decided to change to knowing I will someday be able to paint the way I want to paint, thus the change of title. Knowing is a great improvement over hoping.
Painting this one made me very happy and encouraged me to go on. It's somewhat sloppy, but doesn't give quite such a sloppy appearance in person. The contrast of the photo makes the sloppiness extra noticeable.
I thought I would show this one to you because I haven't been able to paint anything decent since last Wednesday's roses. I tried to paint some more flowers I was given this past weekend, but they turned out awful. Rather than get down about it, I return to "Knowing."
Thanks for looking and understanding....

"Knowing" is definitely an improvement over "hoping" and I think you must "hope" before you "know" and there is nothing wrong with that. I feel the change represents growth and learning. I strive to be a lifelong learner and I hope I am always growing. BTW I can "see" you are growing too.

Smart thing to change the title. Hope is for dreamers. Knowing is power. You decided to take on this challenge for a reason and that reason is to become a better painter. You are doing it, Meredith. The act of painting every day is one thing that separates "hopers" from "doers." You are gaining the knowledge to help you become a better painter. You are now more critical of your own work, because you know more. It's all part of growing. Now pick up that paintbrush and start painting. lol I sometimes have to remind myself to have fun. Have fun!
Oh, I forgot about the painting. lol I love it! All those different planes of red. A difficult color handled very well. Nice edges too. You should be proud of this one.
Thanks Mom and Doug. What you each said means the world to me, because I feel understood...what a good feeling to be understood. I needed that today! Thanks, too, for what you said about the painting, Doug. Being that I am sort of winging it and just trying to do my best, hearing from another painter about the work really helps.
Hi Meridith,
Love this little painting... love its simplicity.
Carol
Oh, thanks Carol, and thanks for stopping back in. I appreciate it so much.
Just bouncing around your blog and came across this lovely piece. This is super. Love the mindset also.
